I am reviewing this book for and NetGalley who gave me a copy of their book for an honest reviewA lovely simple guide to show you how herbs can be useful in life It doesn t bombard you with every use a certain herb has and just focuses on one or two things you could do with it Some wonderful photos and images to help you identify particular hebsI never realised there were so many parts of a plant.

Pros 1 I cannot say enough positive things about the photos in this book In my experiences, I have found most herbal recipe books have low quality photographs, if any at all The pictures in this book practically jump off the pages From a variety of close up shots and angles of each profiled plant, to pictures of finished recipes so amazingly displayed I want to eat wear use NOW This book is worth purchasing for the photos alone, but thankfully there are good things too 2 This book is a lovely blend of childhood whimsy and interests and the practical and useful desires of adulthood As each chapter delves into a different herb, you are given healthful recipes and remedies that highlight that specific herb Additionally, in each chapter, there are activities that will engage the imaginations and creativities of children and those young at heart, all with an herbal outdoorsy feel.3 Each herb is introduced in a first person format, before going into details on where to find them, how to identify, parts to use, lookalikes, etc I find that brief introduction to be an adorable and unique way to showcase each plant, and to give it it s own voice It s also a very engaging way to draw in the interests of children, as that wording readily catches and maintains their attention 4 Each recipe is clearly outlined, easy to understand, and most if not all , are easy to prepare But don t be fooled by their ease, these are still very useful and wonderful recipes you will want in your life The author has simply removed the mystery and feelings of potentially being overwhelmed when jumping into DIY herbal remedies.Cons Not really a con , but of a heads up , this book is not going to be helpful for experienced herbalists It will still be an enjoyable and engaging read, but you likely won t learn many new things. In short, this book is amazing, I am loving it so much

The beautiful photos and illustrations complement the lighthearted, engaging text making the material easily accessible to beginner herbalists of all ages The author s familiarity with her subject is obvious, and her fondness for these remarkable plants comes through in the warmth of her prose There is so much to love about this book that I hate to choose, but I think the personal introductions of each plant are my favorite part Each plant s voice is so charming and distinct The recipes and techniques are simple enough that I have already tried several of them and feel inspired to learn I would love to see a sequel featuring another array of familiar but overlooked healing plants and their uses.

I bought 7 copies of Rachel s book Six are gifts for all the nieces and nephews and their families my husband and I made the flower press, from the book s directions, to give along with it, and it s perfect The last copy is for me, and as a trained herbalist who hasn t been keeping up the practice, I ve made it my 2019 resolution to make at least one remedy from all the herbs listed in the book It seems like a doable, fun goal The book is gorgeous, well written with beautiful photos.

This is the book I ve been waiting for A couple years ago I started making my own lotions, salves, and lip balm I have been eager to learn about herbs to add to my toolbox, but I have found most resources intimidating with a lot of information and terminology but not very user friendly instructions or pictures Herbal Adventures is the first book I ve looked at that makes me feel like I can go out and not only forage my own plants but do many things with each one It s thorough without being over whelming I can t wait to start foraging
